Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve answered a few common questions about joining the Billybear family, to make the transition as smooth and enjoyable as possible for both you and your child.

How do I enrol my child?

We’d love to welcome your child to the Billybear family. Please visit our enrolment page and complete the form. One of our Centre Directors will give you a call within 48 hours to discuss your child’s enrolment and explain the next steps.

Do you charge a waitlist fee?

No, there is no charge to add your child to our waitlist. You can call or email to remove your child from the waitlist at any time.

Do I need to make an appointment to visit the centre?

We have an open doors policy, however the children in our care are always our first priority. If you drop by unexpectedly, we may not have an educator available to show you around, as they need to stay with the children at all times. For this reason, we prefer that you contact us to make an appointment.

How soon can my child start?

Your child can join Billybear Preschool straight away, if there is a place available. When you join the waitlist, our educators will call to let you know if there is a place available.

Do you have a minimum number of days?

We believe that attending childcare at least two days a week helps children settle into a good routine and gives them an opportunity to benefit from our curriculum. That’s why we have a two-day minimum for each child who enrols at Billybear Preschool.

How long is your waitlist?

The length of time you’ll wait for a place at Billybear Preschool depends on a number of factors, including the time of year and the age of your child. When you join the waitlist, we’ll let you know if there is a place available orhow long you can expect to wait.

What are your fees?

The fees you pay may be affected by the Child Care Benefit or Child Care Rebate, so it’s best to contact us to find out what the fees are for your family.

Do siblings get priority access?

We’re happy to provide families who already have a child enrolled at Billybear Preschool with priority access for their other children. We know it makes your day easier and gives your children an opportunity to spend time together during the day.

What does my child need to bring each day?

You’ll need to provide a sun smart hat, water bottle, piece of fruit, cot or bed sheets and pillowcase, spare change of clothes, nappy rash cream and bottles made up with milk or formula. If your child is attending our Ingleburn centre, you’ll need to bring nappies and wipes if required.

Which room will my child be in?

Each of our centres have a Tiny Teddies (0-3 years) and Big Bears (3-6 years) room. We also have a calming nursery area for babies aged six weeks to 15 months, as well as a before andafter school and vacation care facility for children aged 5-12 years.

How do I access the Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate?

The Australian government provides families with two types of financial assistance to help cover the costs of childcare—the Child Care Benefit and the Child Care Rebate. While the Child Care Benefits is based on your income, the Child Care Rebate is not. Visit the Department of Human Services website to find out whether you are eligible and how to apply.

What is Kinder m8?

Kinder m8 is a secure app that provides real-time updates on your child, from what they ate and how long they slept, to how often their nappy was changed and what time they took their medication. You’ll also see what learning outcomes they achieved and what activities they enjoyed. Every precious moment is captured, so you don’t miss a thing.

Does my child need to sleep at rest time?

We encourage children to lay down and rest for at least 10-15 minutes each day. If they want to rest longer or get up and play, that’s no problem. We have beds available in the Tiny Teddies room, so your child can rest and relax at any time during the day.

What should I do if my child is sick?

If your child isn’t well and won’t be attending preschool, please call or email your Centre Director in the morning. Depending on what kind of illness they have, you may need a clearance certificate from the doctor before your child can return to preschool.

What meals are provided at Billybear Preschool?

Your child will receive breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and supper each day. At Ingleburn we have a qualified chef on-site, who prepares fresh and healthy meals for the children in our care. Our children at Billybear Rosemeadow enjoy five-star catering from Kids Gourmet Food, which is prepared and delivered fresh each day. Both services ensure your child gets all the nutrition they need each day and promotes awareness of foods from a variety of cultures.

Do you cater for allergies, religious beliefs and food preferences?

Yes, we’re happy to cater to any allergies, beliefs or food preferences. Please discuss your child’s dietary needs with the Centre Director during the enrolment process, or contact us with any specific questions you may have.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require four weeks’ notice if you would like to cancel your child’s enrolment. Please provide this notice in writing by emailing your Centre Director at contact@billybearpreschool.com.au.
